Rust finds the spring first
East of US 1, and anywhere the sea breeze reaches, pitting on the spring coils and the bottom brackets starts the cracks. Coated springs and stainless hardware buy years.

Springs that snapped, openers that quit after a storm, cables that let go, doors hanging off the track, rusted bottom sections, tune-ups, impact-rated and wind-rated replacements, garage screens and commercial roll-ups. One call covers Port St. Lucie, Tradition, St. Lucie West, Fort Pierce, Jensen Beach, Stuart, Palm City, Hobe Sound and Vero Beach.

Retractable and motorized screens that turn a two-car garage into a shaded, bug-free room for the months when the lanai is too hot.
Screens →Two hurricanes came ashore at the south end of Hutchinson Island in the same month in 2004. A Category 1 landed south of Vero Beach in 2022. In 2024 the tornadoes that ran ahead of Milton tore through Spanish Lakes, Lakewood Park, Portofino Shores and Holiday Pines, killed four people and knocked out power to more than 64,000 homes. The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety found that when the garage door held, nine homes in ten had no structural roof damage. That is why a door here is a structural question, not a cosmetic one.
Port St. Lucie grew faster than almost any city its size in the country, and almost everyone who moved here owns a one-story home with an attached garage. The doors went in by the tens of thousands, and they age on the same clock.
House Bill 735 phased out local trade registrations, and the City of Port St. Lucie's notice lists garage door installation among the licenses that ended on July 1, 2023. Installations and replacements are now done by a contractor licensed through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Repairs are not licensed work, which is why insurance is the thing to ask about for a spring or an opener.
A new door is permitted and inspected by the City of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County or Martin County, depending on the address. The door has to carry a Florida Product Approval and be rated to the design pressure for the opening under the 2023 Florida Building Code. Martin County even has a form just for garage door design pressures. Springs, cables, rollers, openers and sensors are repairs and need no permit.
Tradition, St. Lucie West, the gated communities along Becker Road and most of the 55-plus neighborhoods want the style, color and window layout of a new door approved before it goes in, and some have rules about screens. We send the spec sheet and the color chip and wait for the approval letter so the new door never becomes a violation notice.

A summer afternoon storm can take out a logic board without tripping a breaker. The motor hums, the lights blink, nothing moves. Boards are replaceable; a surge protector is cheap.
Opener repair →
Thousands of homes on the original quarter-acre plats still have single-skin doors with no label. They are the first thing to go in a storm and the first thing an insurer asks about.
Impact doors →
West-facing garages in Tradition and St. Lucie West get a door that reverses at sunset. A sun shield on the eye or a swap of the sender side cures it.
Door will not close →What the door does, where you are, whether a car is stuck. A time window comes back the same day for a door that will not move.
The opener is disconnected and the door lifted manually. A heavy door is a spring; a light door with a dead motor is the opener; a crooked door is a cable or a roller.
Parts and labor on one sheet, itemized, before anything is removed. Say yes, and the work starts; say no, and you owe the trip fee only.
Springs set so the door floats at waist height, the safety reverse checked with a block of wood, and the old parts left for you to see.
Rough 2026 figures for St. Lucie and Martin counties, so you can budget before anyone arrives: the trip and diagnosis is about $79 to $129 and disappears from the bill when the repair goes ahead; a single torsion spring is roughly $220 to $380, a matched pair $320 to $560; a snapped cable set $150 to $300; a door lifted back onto its track $175 to $400; an opener repair $150 to $350; a new belt-drive opener with a battery backup, fitted, $600 to $1,000; and an insulated 16-by-7 steel door installed, with the permit, $1,900 to $3,400, more for an impact-rated door. Whatever the job, the technician writes the exact number down before starting. The price guide goes line by line.
Nine times out of ten that is the torsion spring, the coil on the bar above the door. It is rated by cycles, usually 10,000, and a two-car door used five or six times a day gets through that in five to seven years. Salt air on the Treasure Coast shortens it further, because pitting on the steel is where the crack starts. Without the spring the opener is trying to lift two hundred pounds on its own, so it stalls or trips. Leave the door down, keep the red cord alone, and we fit a new pair the same day.
For a new door or a full replacement, yes on both counts. Since July 1, 2023, Florida's HB 735 has done away with the City of Port St. Lucie's local garage-door registration, so installations are now done by contractors holding a state license through DBPR, and the City, St. Lucie County or Martin County issues the permit. Repairs such as springs, cables, rollers, openers and sensors need no permit. Every new door we arrange comes with its Florida Product Approval number and its design-pressure label. The permits guide covers the details.
Open it and look along the inside edge of a section or on the end stile for a label listing positive and negative design pressures in pounds per square foot and a test standard, typically ANSI/DASMA 108, ASTM E330 or TAS 202. No label almost always means an unrated door from before the current code took hold. It matters because a door that blows in lets the wind pressurize the house and push up on the roof. The hurricane guide explains the label and the My Safe Florida Home grant.
All of them. Home base is Port St. Lucie, from Tradition and St. Lucie West out to the Treasure Coast Square side, and technicians travel north to Fort Pierce, Lakewood Park and Vero Beach and south to Jensen Beach, Stuart, Palm City and Hobe Sound. The area pages list the neighborhoods.
The phone is picked up, your details are taken and the problem is logged, at any hour. A technician calls back to set a time, the same day for a door that will not open or close. If a car is trapped or the door is stuck open with the house exposed, say so, and you move to the front of the queue.
A technician can usually be at a Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce or Stuart address the same day. You hear the price first, and new-door quotes are free.
